David Weiss- A True Hero
Thanks to Barbra Wineman Scognamiglio For this precious donation to our peace project I grew up in Waterbury, Connecticut when I was a young girl and I knew Barbra's parents Doris and David as well as her sisters Donna and Karen. When I read this on Facebook I was touched and approached Barbraasking her if I could share this touching story with our community at the Global Virtual Classroom Clubhouse and on Peace Project 2011
As told by Barbra: I fondly remember my cousin David as being a jokester, always full of life and a lot of fun. He was born in Freeport LI and always wanted to be a firefighter. He spent countless hours in the fire station there, making friends with everyone. He became one of the elite Rescue 1 firemen; he was honored by the Mayor for rescuing a man whose car went of the road and into the Hudson River, diving the river to save him. And as ironic as it was, the man was a friend of my Aunt Elaine’s. He had massive arms, covered in tattoos, his looks were rough and tough but he was gentle and loving. He was truly a hero, my personal hero of 9/11...nothing was ever found of him, but I am confident that he made it to heaven and is watching over everyone who loved him! It is my hope and dream that we will never forget 9-11 and remember all of those who sacrificed their lives. New York was shattered by the horrible attack of the twin towers. We must unite today and remember that kindness will prevail evil, now and forever! Amen. Marsha Goren GVC Clubhouse Project Manager and Globaldreamers Project Coordinator May God rest his soul.
